Welcome!

Dear friends,

Welcome to IPMA!

Mentoring has always played an important role in how people learn, grow, and make decisions. Many of us have benefited from the guidance of someone more experienced at key moments in our lives.

But today, expectations are changing. Mentoring is no longer just a helpful conversation—it is increasingly relied upon to support leadership, careers, and organisational performance. Yet too often, it remains informal and inconsistent.

IPMA is a not-for-profit organisation with a clear ambition—to transform how mentoring is delivered, recognised, and trusted in the years ahead.

Our aim is to see mentoring recognised as a profession—grounded in experience, supported by clear standards, and delivered with consistency and integrity. Not to replace the human connection at its core, but to strengthen it, so people can rely on the quality of support they receive.

We bring structure where it is needed, recognise real capability, and support mentors in using their experience effectively.

If you share this ambition, I invite you to explore our website. And if you would like to learn more about how we can support you or your organisation, please feel free to get in touch.

Warm regards

Arshad Ali

President

Integrate Knowledge Management/tacit knowledge management into mentoring

As a leading professional association, IPMA recognizes the importance of empowering mentors to effectively guide and support their mentees. To achieve this, it is essential to integrate tacit knowledge management into the mentoring process.

Tacit knowledge refers to the personal, experiential, and intuitive knowledge that individuals possess, which is often difficult to formalize or codify.

By focusing solely on explicit knowledge, mentors may underutilize their valuable insights and expertise that their mentees can gain from their personal experiences and perspectives.
